When Midtown Athletic Club began planning its Summer Masquerade Ball, the goal wasn’t to stage a traditional performance.
The vision was something more refined: a sophisticated rooftop evening inspired by classic Venetian masquerades, where live entertainment enhanced the atmosphere without interrupting conversation or competing with the guest experience.
Vaudezilla partnered with Midtown’s event team to develop an entertainment concept that blended immersive performance, elegant costuming, and carefully timed theatrical moments into a cohesive evening designed specifically for the club’s members.
Starting With the Guest Experience
Rather than offering a standard entertainment package, we began with questions.
What should guests feel when they arrive?
Should performances happen continuously, or should they become memorable focal points throughout the evening?
How could entertainment complement live music instead of competing with it?
Through a series of conversations with Midtown’s event planner, the concept evolved from primarily roaming entertainment into two featured masquerade performances strategically timed around a live violinist’s breaks. This created a natural rhythm for the evening while allowing guests to enjoy conversation, cocktails, and the rooftop atmosphere between featured moments.
Entertainment Designed Around the Event
Every event has its own personality.
For Midtown, that personality centered on classic Venetian elegance rather than theatrical excess.
Together, we developed an experience featuring:

- Two featured performance sets

Adapting in Real Time
One hallmark of successful live events is flexibility.
On the afternoon of the event, weather forced the Summer Masquerade Ball indoors, moving the celebration from Midtown’s rooftop to the club’s theater space. Rather than disrupting the evening, the entertainment adapted to the new environment, preserving the elegant atmosphere while making use of the indoor venue’s intimate setting.
Luxury events rarely unfold exactly as planned, and part of our role is ensuring guests experience a seamless production regardless of behind-the-scenes changes.
