Oriental Dance, or Raqs Sharki, is one of the oldest and most powerful forms of dance from a rich cultural background. The natural movements of bellydance can be enjoyed by all women, regardless of age or size. Previous dance experience is NOT necessary. Come dance with Phaedra and feel great about your body while you enjoy learning the culture and customs associated with this form of movement! This class will challenge the body and the mind, combining strengthening of the core and controlled isolations with cardio choreography to lively Middle Eastern music that uses the movements and isolations of bellydance. You will be having so much fun in your jingling coin skirt that you won't even notice you are getting a great workout! Coin skirts will be provided. Suggested clothing: please wear something comfortable that you can bend and stretch in. You do not need to show your belly, but form fitting clothing is always a plus for a dance class in order to observe technique. Loose skirts are permissible, but keep in mind that we will be stretching on the floor frequently, so they are not recommended. Shoes which let the foot turn will be best - no street sneakers. Please bring yoga mat.

This 8-week session will focus on finger cymbals. Please purchase a pair in advance, as instructor only has a few available to borrow. inquire further if you need advice on purchase.
